High Performance Computing Resources for Parallel Simulations and Data Analysis: NSG and HPAC

A Satellite Symposium of the Society for Neuroscience meeting in San Diego CA. The Neuroscience Gateway Portal (NSG https://www.nsgportal.org/) eliminates most administrative and technical barriers, providing a web-based interface, free CPU time to users, and easy access to widely used software. The Human Brain Project's High Performance Analytics and Computing Platform (HPAC https://hbp-hpc-platform.fz-juelich.de/) provides extensive HPC support for the HBP community. The workshop will combine hands-on instruction on how to use NSG with didactic presentations by NSG and HPAC developers and users.

1st Community Workshop HBP Network simulator - Are we building the right thing? – Requirements from theory for simulation environments and neuromorphic computing

EITN, Paris, France. Organizers: Andrew Davison, Jeff Muller, Jochen Eppler, David Lester, Abigail Morrison and Markus Diesmann. The simulation engine for networks of abstract spiking neuron models called the network simulator provided by the software NEST particularly targets theoretical neuroscience and neurorobotics. This workshop presents the capabilities of the network simulator and the corresponding PyNN expressions as available at the end of the ramp-up phase of the HBP in March 2016.

Olfactory Modeling (a NIMBioS Investigative Workshop) - Large-scale Modeling of Olfactory Processing

NIMBioS at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Organizers: Sharon Crook and Brian Smith. Our goal is to review the current state of the mathematical approaches and tools for modeling olfaction. We also will identify tasks for future development that will maximize the impact of individual projects, and we will define areas of mutual interest and establish collaborations for large-scale modeling of this system, with a focus on incorporating realistic biophysical mechanisms for learning and memory.

The topic this year is "what do we do with all the neural data we are collecting?".
